What To Do After A Slip And Fall Accident
If you are inside a business shopping or looking at the services they offer, and you slip on a slick surface, causing you injury in the process, you will want to take the proper steps in order to get the help you need along with money you may be owed to pay for your medical expenses. Sometimes it can be difficult to prove who is at fault as a result of a slip and fall accident. Here are some tips you can use to help prove you are the one in the right and that the business is at fault.
Get Medical Help
As soon as you are injured, call or ask someone else to call an ambulance. Waiting to see if you will be all right can hurt your chances in getting medical assistance if the fall was caused by negligence of the business where you had slipped. Follow all instructions your doctor or the emergency personnel tell you in order to get better.
If you do not heed their directions, and you miss work because of your injury, you might not be able to cash in on funds you would be owed because of the inability to perform your job. If you follow instructions and cannot work, there is a chance the business where you had gotten injured may have to pay for your loss of wages.
Get Proof
While waiting for the ambulance, try to snap a few photos of the area where the injury had occurred. Having proof that the business was negligent, causing you to fall, would be very helpful in proving you are not to blame. When you file a complaint, it may end up going to court to be solved if the business fails to admit any wrongdoing. Having photo evidence may be the best way to win your case.
If you see any witnesses in the area, ask them for their phone number before the ambulance arrives so you can have an attorney follow up with them later. Failing to get evidence and witnesses right after the accident occurs could cause you to lose your case, as it will be difficult to prove who was at fault later on.
Call A Lawyer
Make a phone call to a personal injury lawyer as soon as you feel well enough. The quicker you can find out what your options are, the quicker you can try to have your medical bills taken care of by the business at fault. If you cannot work because of the accident, you will want this taken care of, as well. Give your lawyer all documentation given to you by your doctor regarding your injury. This may be used in the court of law if the business tries not to pay for their negligence.
